Get Out The Vote 2024, Part 1

Our democracy is in danger. The radical right is poised to usurp the federal government and suspend the Constitution.

Donald Trump and MAGA have successfully remade the Republican Party into a violent extremist group that advocates Hitlerian values. “Project 2025” is their blueprint for installing Trump as a “President for Life” and legalizing religious, racial and sexual discrimination.

The only peaceful way to stop this is to mobilize every eligible Democratic and Independent voter. This starts with making sure we’re all registered to vote. Then we have to get the information about issues and candidates into the hands of those voters. Finally, we need everyone to cast their vote.

All of that depends on us - the people who care enough to do the work now. Bear in mind that it’s not just the Presidential race that matters: we also need to get a Democratic majority in the House and the Senate. To that end, here are some useful links. Use them. Learn about the ways you can get involved and then choose one.

The time is now.

Register to Vote: https://www.vote.gov. Rules and deadlines vary from state to state - but you can find it all at this website. Just choose your state from the drop-down menu to learn when, where and how to register.

Join A Group Doing the Work: There are many organizations that already have the infrastructure in place. Some work on getting people registered; others are focused on getting information about issues and political races.

Help people with felony convictions regain their voting rights:

  • The Marshall Project

  • The Sentencing Project

  • ProCo

  • American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)

Spread the Word: Once you’ve joined a group, share it on your social sites - Facebook, Snapchat, X…alla that. Then post an update once a week. Add the link at the bottom of every email you write. Make little cards to hand out. Put a sign on your car window that says “Ask Me About ____”

We have less than 4 months left to do this work. Don’t let it be too late. Get Out the Vote.
